Treatment of Anal Cancer in Indore
- Overview
The anus harbours anal cancer. The anus is the portion of the large intestine that opens during a bowel movement to let faeces flow through. The colon, which is the longest portion of the large intestine, and the rectum are other components of the large bowel. The anus is roughly 1.5 inches long.
Each of the several tissue types found in the anus has a variety of cell types. Squamous cells, flat cells with a flat shape, make up the epithelium that covers the exterior of the anus.

Types
(a) Squamous cell carcinomas: The most prevalent type of anal cancer is squamous cell carcinoma. They are mostly to blame for anal malignancies. The squamous cells that line the anal edge and the majority of the anal canal are the sources of these malignancies. Squamous cell carcinoma is referred to as carcinoma in situ when it is in its initial stages. The epithelium is the only tissue where the malignant cells of CIS have progressed; no other tissues have been affected. Invasive squamous cell carcinoma cells are no longer regarded as in situ because they have already proliferated outside of the epithelium.
(b) Cloacogenic carcinomas: This is a subclass of squamous cell cancers.
Approximately 30% of anal tumours develop in the transitional zone. Another word for this zone is the cloaca. Some tumours that form here are known as Cloacogenic carcinomas.
(c) Adenocarcinoma: Adenocarcinoma is a rare type of anal cancer. Adenocarcinomas can form in the glands that lie beneath the anal epithelium and secrete material into the anal canal. They could develop in apocrine glands as well (a type of sweat gland of the perianal skin).
(d) Basal cell carcinomas: Basal cell carcinomas are a kind of skin cancer that can arise from the perianal skin. The occurrence of these tumours in anal malignancies is uncommon.
(e) Malignant melanoma: Malignant melanoma is a kind of cancer that frequently affects body sections that are exposed to sunlight. However, a small percentage of skin cancers are of the melanoma kind, which is caused by skin cells that generate the dark pigment melanin.
